Qualification summary
Based on National Occupational Standards (NOS), this Level 3 Diploma in Installing Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Electrical Fitting Pathway includes units on shaping components by material removal using hand tools, interpreting and following fabrication and installation documentation and procedures and more.
The objective of this vocational qualification is to provide recognition that a learner has demonstrated the required level of technical competence to be qualified to work as an installation craftsperson on engineering construction structures, plant and equipment in one of the following disciplines (pathways):
- Pipefitting
- Plating
- Mechanical Fitting
- Electrical Fitting
The learner is required to select ONE discipline pathway ONLY when registering on the qualification. Successful completion of the qualification pathway will lead to the learner being awarded one of the following:
- ECITB Level 3 Diploma in Installation of Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Pipefitting
- ECITB Level 3 Diploma in Installation of Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Plating
- ECITB Level 3 Diploma in Installation of Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Mechanical Fitting
- ECITB Level 3 Diploma in Installation of Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Electrical Fitting

To achieve this qualification learners must complete 9 mandatory units for each chosen pathway as specified below. A learner must successfully meet the selected discipline pathway requirements of each of the specified units to attain this qualification.
Note:
Units IPS06, 09, 12 and 13 are not in the Pipefitting pathway.
Units IPS06, 09, 10 and 13 are not in the Plating pathway.
Units IPS05, 09, 12 and 13 are not in the Mechanical Fitting pathway.
Units IPS05, 06, 07 and 12 are not in the Electrical Fitting pathway.
It takes the average learner 1,697 hours to complete this qualification. This includes 1,018 hours of time with a teacher, trainer or assessor, the remaining hours are unsupervised time for learning and producing evidence to be assessed.
The amount of time taken to achieve this qualification is typically 36 months.

Shape components by material removal using machine tools (mechanical fitting pathway only)

Assemble components (pipefitting, plating and mechanical fitting pathways only)

Position and install plant, equipment and systems (all pathways)
IPS09
Connect wiring systems (electrical fitting pathway only)
IPS010
Test the performance and condition of installed components and assemblies (pipefitting, mechanical fitting and electrical fitting pathways only)
IPS011
Dismantle assemblies, plant, equipment and systems (all pathways)
IPS012
Join materials by manually controlled welding processes (plating pathway only)

Diagnose and correct electrical faults
