This qualification is available for registrations from 1 July 2024.

Based on National Occupational Standards, this ECITB Diploma in Supporting Engineering Construction Activities at SCQF Level 5 – Installation pathway includes units on contributing to effective working relationships in engineering construction, working with environmental sustainability in mind and more.

The ECITB Diploma in Supporting Engineering Construction Activities at SCQF Level 5 (Installation pathway) qualification is a work-based qualification. The qualification comprises both knowledge and competence.

The objectives of this qualification are to:

Prepare learners for employment in supporting engineering construction activities in the engineering construction industry.
Support learners working in supporting engineering construction activities in the engineering construction industry.
Enable learners to progress to higher levels providing opportunities to possible supervisory and managerial roles.

Where is this qualification delivered?

To complete this qualification learners must enrol with one of ECITB’s Approved Centres listed below.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no mandatory entry requirements. The qualification is open to any learner who the Approved Centre believes can reach the assessment requirements set out within the qualification specification.

Learners must have a sound grasp of the English language and mathematics to be able to follow instructions as well as complete the learning and assessment required within this qualification.

Approved Centres will discuss the qualification with learners to determine how suitable it is for them, given their past experiences and qualifications, and their ability and motivation to learn.

What is the qualification structure?

To achieve this qualification learners must complete all 11 of the following mandatory units. There are no optional units in this qualification.

Support the positioning and installation of equipment and systems in engineering construction

Support the dismantling of equipment and systems in engineering construction

Are there progression opportunities?

Completing this qualification can lead to a range of further career options. Individuals can progress through additional qualifications and apprenticeships or into supporting engineering functions such as technical leadership, procurement, quality assurance, project management or project controls.

Those who wish to stay in engineering construction can develop their skills further, or progress through supervision to senior positions such as construction manager.

The ECITB’s apprenticeship programme is its main vehicle for recruiting and training young people to meet the future skills requirements of the industry. Qualifications at Levels 5, 6 and 7 are often an integral part of this scheme.
