Chris Claydon, Chief Executive of the ECITB, said: “The ECITB welcomes the Government’s announcement that it will back offshore wind to produce 40GW of electricity.

“Around a quarter of engineering construction companies operate in the renewable energy supply chain. As the statutory skills body for the industry, we have a crucial role to play in developing the skills of the workforce and the thousands of new jobs this investment will create.

“The ECITB funds a wide range of training across the offshore wind sector and has developed industry-leading training standards. Our work to boost transferable skills in the offshore oil and gas sector, through the Connected Competence programme, is highly relevant to offshore wind.

“In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we have enacted a range of measures to protect and develop skills. Our Train to Retain and Scholarship programmes will help new entrants embark on careers that are central to delivering the UK’s net zero commitment, including in offshore wind.

“We also strongly support the commitment to boosting diversity and hope this high profile launch will help industry attract more women and BAME groups to pursue careers in this exciting sector.”
