Chief Executive Chris Claydon MBE has announced he will leave the ECITB in the new year after 7 successful years at the helm of the industry-led statutory skills body.
Chris joined the ECITB in 2015 following a long and distinguished career in the British Army and various roles for the Ministry of Defence. During his tenure, Chris has steered the ECITB through some of the most challenging times for the engineering construction industry, hitting the ground running to support industry during the oil price crash and then through the pandemic where the ECITB acted to ensure industry learning could continue.
Chris’ departure comes after the resounding success of the ECITB’s recent levy consensus, in which 85% of levy payers representing 97% of the levy paid, backed the Board’s levy proposals for the next 3 years. He will leave the ECITB in February 2023 to join JTL Group as Chief Executive.
“After 7 very happy years at the ECITB, I have decided to move on to my next challenge,” Chris said.
“Working with excellent people and for an organisation that does nationally important work has made my time at the ECITB professionally fulfilling and great fun.
“I am proud to leave the ECITB in great shape. We have a first-rate and engaged Board, driven and talented people throughout the organisation and a great strategy for the next three years. And following the positive levy consensus vote, we continue to have a strong mandate from the industry.”
Lynda Armstrong, Chair of the ECITB Board, said: “Throughout his tenure as Chief Executive, Chris has provided vital leadership and has been an exemplary ambassador for engineering construction.
“On behalf of the Board, I thank him for steering the ECITB through some of the trickiest times in living memory and helping us emerge from these challenges in such a strong position.
“Chris will be a hard act to follow, and he leaves the ECITB with the best wishes from his friends and colleagues for every success in his new position.”
The Board has already commenced the search for a new CEO. Further details will be announced in due course.
