The ECITB has updated its Appointed Person Moving Loads (APML) training and test (TAP01) to ensure continued relevancy with the engineering construction industry (ECI).
Changes have been made by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) to reflect the appointed person’s safety critical role in lifting operations within the ECI.
Industry experts, such as senior lifting and moving specialists, alongside ECITB approved training providers were instrumental in the APML review in ensuring the content meets the safety and skill requirements expected.
Changes include:
- Making the health and safety elements of the training less general and more relevant to the discipline.
- Making the pre-requisites for entry to the training more robust to ensure only experienced riggers and steel erectors can attend.
- Moving loads on skates is an element that has been added to ensure the training keeps up with the operations used on sites.
- An updated, clearer logbook for those new to the discipline has also been developed and this is required to be completed via onsite consolidation before competency testing.
Ray Skene, Technical Products Manager at the ECITB, said: “These changes will ensure the training continues to be robust and provides experienced riggers and steel erectors with a development path.”
APML training and testing is also part of the Connected Competence scheme to ensure skills learned are transferable across industry.
