How did you learn about the ECITB Scholarship programme and why did it appeal to you?
“I decided to go down the engineering route when I saw the course advertised. I thought to myself engineering is continuously growing and has loads of opportunity to find work. Prior to this, I would never have gone down this route. It was a spur of the moment decision and thought I might as well try it out.”
What were you hoping to get out of the scholarship experience?
“As someone who had no previous experience in engineering, I hoped to go away from the course with the skills and discipline of a good engineer.”
Do you think what you’ve learnt will help you develop within your career?
“With the skills I have gathered from the program, they can be transferred into the work I do and can continuously use them throughput my future in engineering.”
What made you choose the route of Asset Integrity Base Technician?
“Cathodic Protection is very unique, I had never even heard about it until I came to Stork for an organised visit via college, and as the team was providing information on what it is and what they do, it started to intrigue me more and more. I was keen to try get more work experience over the holidays so that I could learn more about it.
What do you enjoy most about being an engineer?
“The different variety of tasks that present themselves each day and getting to work alongside other engineers.
If you could give one piece of advice to your 16-year-old self what would it be?
“No matter how hard things gets, keep pushing to achieve your goals and then you can earn the rewards you have worked for.”
What do you want from your career and where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
“I hope to continue gaining knowledge after I finish college, and use my time with this internship to develop my skills. Who knows, maybe in the future I’ll be a part of the Cathodic Protection team.”
Why do you think engineering is important for the future?
“Engineering will always be around, without it we wouldn’t have sources of power, construction, manufacturing or the use of anything that helps us live every day life.”
