Qualification summary

Based on National Occupational Standards (NOS), this Level 2 Diploma in Supporting the Installation of Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Mechanical Fitting Pathway includes units on marking out to the required specification, interpreting and following documentation and procedures and more.

This vocational qualification provides recognition that a learner has demonstrated the required level of technical competence to support engineering activities and operations on projects in sectors such as engineering, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, utilities, transport and defence in one of the following pathways:

  • Mechanical Fitting
  • Pipefitting
  • Plating

The learner is required to select ONE discipline pathway ONLY when registering on the qualification. Successful completion of the qualification pathway will lead to the learner being awarded one of the following:

  • ECITB Level 2 Diploma in Supporting the Installation of Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Mechanical Fitting
  • ECITB Level 2 Diploma in Supporting the Installation of Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Pipefitting
  • ECITB Level 2 Diploma in Supporting the Installation of Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (RQF) – Plating

What is the qualification structure?

To achieve this qualification learners must complete 7 mandatory units for the mechanical fitting pathway. A learner must successfully meet the selected discipline pathway requirements of each of the specified units to attain this qualification.

It takes the average candidate 845 hours to complete the Mechanical Fitting Pathway within this qualification. This includes 715 hours of time with a teacher, trainer or assessor, the remaining hours are unsupervised time for learning and producing evidence to be assessed.

The amount of time taken to achieve this qualification is typically 6-9 months.

Interpret and follow documentation and procedures including prepare and reinstate the work area

Mark out to the required specification

SIPS04
Shape components by material removal using hand tools

Support the assembly of components

SIPS06
Support the positioning and installation of plant and equipment

SIPS07
Support the dismantling of plant and equipment

SIPS08
Support welding operations in engineering construction (pipefitting and plating only)
