Eight teams from engineering companies Aker Solutions, HZI (Hitachi Zosen Inova), Oceaneering, Petrofac, Stork, Subsea 7, TechnipFMC and Wood competed in the 45th ECITB ACTIVE Cup this week.
Petrofac took the prestigious winning place in the closely fought competition with Wood (gold winner) & Aker Solutions (silver winner) as runners up. Stork won the most improved project team category.
The high-pressure project management competition takes place three times a year at Cranfield School of Management.
Andy Brown, ECITB’s Interim CEO, said: “The Active Cup is one of the flagship interventions within our project management programme to develop project management skills and nurture behavioural skills, such as collaboration.
“The competition gives teams experience of the whole project management process as they manage the simulated project through an execution phase of 30 weeks. It tests the wide range of skills needed for this such as planning, cost control, negotiation, working under intense time pressure and, of course, collaborating both internally and with other teams.
“Effective delivery of projects is crucial for the engineering construction industry, particularly to support our journey to Net Zero.”
Andrew Bou Assy from Petrofac said: “The Active Cup was one of the most unique experiences I’ve had in my career.”
Muritala Ajao added: “As engineers, it was a great insight into how a project works from start to finish. We will all take this learning back to Petrofac.”
Organised by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), the ACTIVE Cup is run in collaboration with, and hosted by, Cranfield School of Management.
Now in its 29th year, the ACTIVE Cup is part of the ECITB’s wider project management training programmes aimed at raising skill levels within the engineering construction industry.
